Fluxes and Fate of Microplastics in Northern European Waters

NEWS

ABOUT THE PROJECT

FACTS will create new knowledge and improve our mechanistic understanding on the sources, transport, occurrence, and fate of small microplastics (MP≤500 μm) in the northern marine waters.

FACTS will address the geographical issue of MP transport from the temperate waters of the southern North Sea to the Arctic waters of the Barents Sea. It will include the physical distribution of MP on different temporal and spatial scales and their vertical transport in the water column. In addition, FACTS will target new challenges of determining and quantifying nanoplastics and tyre particles in the marine environment.

WORK PACKAGES

FACTS is structured around the following work packages, which are bound together by the joint sampling campaigns

THE CONSORTIUM

FACTS comprises of the leading experts of micropastic research, establishing cooperation across borders on unprecedented scale, including institutions, universities and private companies.

RESEARCH OUTPUT

FACTS results are disseminated in order to make the results available for the scientific community and the general public, providing outreach, networking and training opportunities.
